Anna-Claire and I are back in GULU!! Just the two of us. And how very different of a trip it's going to be. Just as, if not more so, wonderful and amazing. Already it's been different. We had only 2 days to prepare, instead of months. We flew with a different airline. This time we took pit-stops in Amsterdam (which is nice). We are arranging our own transportation and accommodations, and our own schedule. Yes, it's a vacation. No, it's not a vacation. Gulu is a nice play to escape to, especially away from the cold, U.S. winter weather and to the Ugandan sun. We are, however, also going to work on translating more materials into the local language. Anna-Claire has been working to hard on it, but it's difficult with distance, language, technology, and time barriers. We are hoping to get as much done as possible. We are also going to enjoy seeing and visiting with friends and loved ones while we are here. And, of course, all the fun food and market shopping. But don't worry, Mom and Dad, I'll limit my spending this time.

So, after 20+ hours of flying and 5+ hours of driving, we are back. It turns out that it wasn't good-bye, but come again.
Things we have already realized that we have to relearn:
Chips are fries.
Speak slower.
Patience is key.
Communication is difficult.
Walk on the left side of everything.
Local phrases of appreciation.
Portable toothbrushes (wisps) are super nice to have.
Regardless of what time you are supposed to meet, expect it to be 30 minutes or more later.
