Advertising

Gulu (and the rest of Uganda that we saw) had quite a few billboards. This one was a little bit interesting to me. "Get the Perfect Threesome"
I realize it's advertising phone plans and such, but would YOU have guessed that??
I think the play on words is a little bit inappropriate. Is the idea to get people to notice? Well.... I'm a sucker. And I noticed. But I wasn't completely sure what it was trying to advertise. I suppose some people liked it. I suppose it could've been effective. Even if I needed the phone options they had, this billboard definitely didn't get me to decide on their business. I suppose it's like this in the United States too. All the half-naked, but still apparently PG-rated girls on billboards advertising drinks, food, or whatever else. Thanks, but no thanks.

Another billboard I found interesting and walked by just about every day..... "Live for Now"
Not only is it majority white people on this sign, but it's all about people partying, playing and not seeming to have any responsibility at all. What kind of life are they trying to say people should live for now??
Shouldn't we be thinking about the future too?? Make choices now that will help make life better down the road?
I just am not really sure what Pepsi is trying to say with this one.....
That everyone should just drink Pepsi and play all the time?
Or that drinking Pepsi will give you the kind of lifestyle these people are showing....??
I'm not sure, but it seemed like a very strange and rather out of place billboard. My teacher even posted about it. Read her post at the following link.
Not only was this billboard out of place, but it was ginormous. It was as big as most billboards you see here, but for Gulu, that's overly large and rather obnoxious. Really, Pepsi. Do you think that was necessary?  I am a Pepsi fan as I drink only Mtn Dew, but still.... a little overboard on the advertising. I think everyone enjoys your beverage without having to see a giant sign of people playing and living a life of parties. I think the money could've been better spent on something else instead of promoting your product on a giant sign. . . .
