And better it gets. At least with distractions.
As most of you know, I am a HUGE fan of Mountain Dew. It’s
my only real source of caffeine, or soda really. But it turns out that Mtn Dew
here is made pretty different. Enough so that I’m not a fan. I’d love a
caffeine fix, especially this morning (we stayed up late last night) but it
just doesn’t taste good enough. I think it’s made with something other than
corn syrup and apparently I really like my corn syrup. Either way, I’ll be
quitting that. {Hope that makes you smile, Mom!}
Miracle Center was the church of the day. What an
experience!! And man…. Some of the things he said . . . some were good. Some
were sketchy. Some I agree with. Most I don’t. But that’s all for another post
sometime…. Let’s just say that it was a great distraction for the day!!
I have noticed that there is a noticeable difference in
those who have money and those who don’t. These first things I notice pertain
to Kampala, not necessarily Gulu. But since we are in Kampala for a couple
days, I have noticed a few things. I noticed while at church how you can see
the difference in money, more particularly in children and adolescents. Those
who have money have cleaner, well-kept clothes and longer hair. Most of the
time, young kids have short hair because it’s easier to keep clean and avoid
things such as lice. Those with money have an easier time bathing and keeping
clean so they can have longer hair. And the clothes on the richer are clothes
you would see on American kids too. I know you can see income differences in
those in the states, but it’s interesting to notice it in other cultures as
well.

Another fabulous distraction was the dancing!! We went to a
performance of cultural dances this evening. And if you didn’t know, I am in
love with dancing! I love to watch, see, learn and be involved in dancing.
Cultural dancing is awesome. The music is fantastic as well. They were all very
impressive. I seriously hope I will get the chance to see more dancing. Don’t
worry, between myself and the others, we have video. I’ll try to post at least
one video so you can kind of get a chance to see what I was able to enjoy for a
couple hours.
Another day. . . One of many filled with lots of
experiences, culture, and new things
